Kotoku Hamanaka

Mr. Hamanaka was the only person to choose something that remained unchanged from the past. He pointed out the unusual position of the Sendan Tree, which stands in the middle of the school grounds of Ushibuka Elementary. He played around it as a child and was glad that it had been left there over the years, despite occasional discussions of cutting it down. He wrote, "I want the Sendan tree, which has gazed at the good and bad times of Ushibuka, to be left here forever."
